Bio

Yael Fischer, M.Sc., MPS, ATR-P, has served as the art therapist at JF&CS of Atlanta since 2022. She holds a Master of Professional Studies in Arts Therapy and Creativity Development from Pratt Institute. During her clinical training, she completed internships with the Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS), working with children and young adults, and co-facilitated various art therapy workshops across the metro Atlanta area. Prior to transitioning into art therapy, Yael built a career in pharmacy and clinical pharmacy, practicing in both private and hospital settings after earning her B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She also contributed to early childhood injury prevention initiatives at the Beterem Center for Children’s Health and Safety in Israel. While pursuing her studies and raising her three children, she worked as a substitute teacher at the Montessori Springmont School of Atlanta.

Yael’s work centers on the use of art and creativity to explore both conscious and unconscious processes, with the goal of fostering integration, self-awareness, and emotional expression. No artistic skill or prior experience is required in art therapy. Yael believes that creativity resides in every person and is a fundamental aspect of human development. Using a client-centered, strength-based framework, she provides a warm, supportive, and accepting environment that encourages self-exploration and healing through both verbal and nonverbal means. By engaging in creative processes through a wide range of mixed-media and play-based interventions such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpting and more, she helps individuals access and process thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to express with words alone. As a trained art therapist, she utilizes imagery, symbols, and metaphors to support insight, reduce stress, address past trauma, and build coping skills, while promoting resilience and overall well-being.

With over a decade of clinical experience, Yael enjoys working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults in individual and small group settings. While continuing to serve diverse populations and support a wide range of needs, she has developed a special focus on facilitating art therapy groups for Holocaust survivors and incorporating a distinctive art therapy component into the JF&CS Bereavement group, with both efforts centered on grief, loss, and trauma. Yael is Israeli American and is fluent in English, Hebrew, French, and Spanish, bringing a strong multicultural perspective to her practice.
